I’ve dipped my toe into the world of Instagram reels, and it was pretty entertaining.
My husband got me hooked watching the short, often amusing clips, frequently paired with popular music or movie lines. “I’m going to go to bed,” I tell myself, “As soon as I finish watching this reel.” Fifty reels later I might *actually* go to bed. Hey, days are long and hard, and we could all use a mindless giggle.
One audio track I’ve been hearing over and over is a catchy ditty that cheers, “Sis, you’re doing a gooooood job! Sis, you’re doing a gooooood job!” I have no idea where it originated, but it always leads me to display some graceless dancing and tuneless singing. “Sis, you’re doing a gooooood job!” I tell myself, sashaying in front of the bathroom mirror like fool. And I think there might be some other people out there who could use a goofy little affirmation of their own.
So I did something unprecedented: I appeared on the internet in my very own Instagram reel. It’s only from the neck down to preserve some semblance of anonymity, but my torso and limbs are flailing — ahem, dancing — for all to see. And I use the opportunity to tell the many, many people who work hard to support autistic individuals that sis, you’re doing a good job. (To clarify, I’m using “sis” here in a totally universal, gender-neutral way. Bros, you’re part of this too!)
Here’s the reel for those who haven’t been scared off by my description:
Or if you’re not able to get on Instagram, I added it to my YouTube channel here:
I’m a fan of letting people know they’re appreciated, especially anyone who helps Lina reach her full potential. We’ve been blessed to have so many people in our lives supporting her (and us). I want to let them all know: Sis, you’re doing a gooooood job!
Feel free to share with anyone who’s supported you or your family/friends on their journey! And if you’re the Instagram type, you can follow me here for more weird humor 🙂
